Home  Back to Top

Summer is here!  I am spending as much time as I can in the Eastern Sierra mountains.  We have a very small forest service cabin in the lakes basin of Mammoth Lakes, CA.  The weather is beautiful every day!  In the high 60's to low 70's.  Blue, blue sky with puffy clouds.  The sun makes it feel warmer than it is as we are at about 9,000 feet.  We are next to Twin Lakes Falls so we can hear the falls and across from Lake Maime.  We just put our boat in the lake this week so Steve can easily go fishing whenever we want.  However, I still have to carry the fishing gear over. But we can walk and it is good for me to walk!  I have been having trouble with my back and hip and feeling soooo old.  But it is getting better.

Ok, now to beads and jewelry.  I have been making lots of beads and jewelry!  I even have come up with a couple of new designs of beads!  Where are the photos?  Good question!  I am lazy......  BUT next weekend, Aug. 7th and 8th is the San Diego Bead Society Bead Bazaar at the Scottish Rite Center in Mission Valley, San Diego.  I will have my new beads and other beads and jewelry!  Also, my bead partner, Donna Struthers will be with me!  Please come and stop by and say hello!  I want comments on my new beads!

So, now you ask, if you are spending so much time in the mountains how can you make beads and jewelry?  Well, we spend about a week in the mountains and a week at home. So when I am home I am making beads and here I set up my jewelry equipment outside on the picnic table and work. It is so wonderful to work at both places!

I will be in booth #1. Same place every year.  Hope to see you there!

I have been working on my metalsmithing skills for the past couple of years and have really enjoyed it. I juried in for metalsmith earlier this year at Spanish Village. That means I can sell jewelry without glass beads! I feel so much freedom in creating pieces now. Before I had to always include my beads.  But I am still making beads and making jewelry with my beads.

In case you don't know I have become a partner with Chris Stell in Studio #9 at Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park.  I started out just helping her out and she talked me into becoming a partner. It has been a great opportunity for me.  It is like having a retail studio.  I work there on Saturdays from 11am to 4pm.  I have two cases of my jewelry and beads. Spanish Village is a beautiful place to spend time.  So now if you are looking for beads or want to see what I have been working on you can always stop by.

Chris Stell does incredible fused dichroic glasswear & housewears. Everyone is so attracted to them when they enter the studio.  She likes bright colors as I do. Here is a link to her website to get a taste of what she creates.  www.chrisstell.com

In addition to Chris, there are two other artists in the studio. Vaughn Nelson and Susan K. Smith.  Vaughn creates incredible ceramic pieces. Lots of details and whimsical shapes and colors.  You can see his pieces at www.onebluemarble.com. Susan is a travel photographer. The essence of her work is best described as 'fauxtography' ~ the art of supplementing original photographs with artistic expression. She uses a program on her computer to enhance the photographs and make them look painted.  You can see some of her pieces at www.zhibit.org/susank.

I am also in the Art Glass Guild, Studio 25 at Spanish Village too so if you are in the village be sure to check them out.

Here are a couple of photos of some new jewelry pieces I have been working on.
